We want to be real with you. Not many people know this, but Round actually started out as āNo Waste Donuts.ā The plan was to open a completely plastic-free cafĆ©. That idea didnāt last long. We quickly learned that running a food business without plastic just isnāt possible. So we adapted. We still recycle and try to go above and beyond the average restaurant, but yeah, we use plastic.
Why Weāre Making Changes
Our dream has always been to grow something sustainableāsomething bigger than just one vegan cafĆ©. A place that employs people, serves great food, and gives more people access to sustainable options. We believe that we can do more good by growing, even if that means making some compromises along the way.
Running a restaurant right now is hard. Like, really hard. And after going through bankruptcy and buying our production back, weāre still in a pretty tight spot. Every day, people walk in asking for cowās milk or a āproperā protein bagel. When we say we donāt have it, they walk out. When that happens 5ā10 times a day at every location, thatās around 1,500 lost customers each monthāā¬15,000 gone.
So, we made a tough call. Weāre adapting again.
Whatās Changing (and Whatās Not):
- Donuts? Still 100% vegan. Always.
- Our bagel menu is going from 6 vegan options to 5.
- Oat milk (iKaffe) stays standard. If you want cowās milk, youāll have to askāand pay +ā¬1.
- Vegan options will be cheaper.
- Whenever we can, weāll stick with vegan productsāeven when the non-vegan version is cheaper (like our pesto).
Sustainability still sits at the top of our agenda in every manager meeting. We’re not perfect, but weāre trying to do betterājust like we always have.
Thanks for sticking with us. If you missed it, this is a follow-up to our last post: Big Changes at ROUND. Go give it a read if you havenāt yet.
See you soon for donuts, bagels, coffee, and good vibes.
